Betway, Unibet, William Hill and Midnite each hold a Gambling Commission licence and list Dota 2. Betway carries the highest rating, 4.2 out of 5, ahead of Unibet at 3.9, William Hill at 3.8 and Midnite at 3.1. Those ratings cover the whole bookmaker, not Dota 2 alone, so the sections below deal with Dota 2 on its own.
Before a bet, compare the competitions a bookmaker has open, the bet types it prices, how it settles a series that stops early, and the terms of any free bet. Our team tests and checks every fact on this page.
Dota 2 is a competitive team game from Valve. It is played five against five, and each team defends its Ancient. Every player controls one hero, picked from a pool of over a hundred. Heroes carry their own abilities, including ultimates, and the pool takes in magic users, brutes and rogues.
The game is free to play and is downloaded through Steam.
A professional Dota 2 match is a series of games, and bookmakers call each game a map. At The International 2026, group stage series were played over two or three games, and the Grand Final finished 3-2.
That structure sets what a bet is settled on. A match winner bet follows the series, and a map winner bet follows one game. When a series is decided early, Midnite refunds bets on the maps never played: in a best-of-three won 2-0, bets on Map 3 are refunded. Betway settles on the official result supplied by the tournament officials, and Midnite on the result declared by the governing body of the competition.
Valve, the maker of Dota 2, has organised the main competitive structure. From late 2015 until early 2017 it sponsored the Dota Major Championships, a series of seasonal tournaments with a format borrowed from its Counter-Strike majors. After The International 2017 the Dota Pro Circuit replaced them, because teams and fans had criticised how Valve handed out invitations to The International.
The Dota Pro Circuit ran from 2017 to 2023. It combined Major tournaments with Regional Leagues in North America, South America, Southeast Asia, China, Eastern Europe and Western Europe. Third parties organised the tournaments inside the circuit, and Valve coordinated the schedule so that events did not clash.
Teams earned points by finishing in the top six of the upper division of a Regional League or in the top eight of a Major. Events early in a season carried fewer points than those nearer The International. The 12 teams with the most points at the end of a season were invited to The International.
In September 2023 Valve announced that the 2023 season would be the last. It said the circuit had grown too large for the professional scene and that it wanted to support smaller, grassroots tournaments.
Qualification for The International mixes direct invitations, typically based on a team's performance through the year, with qualifier tournaments that fill the remaining places.
The International is the main Dota 2 tournament. It is held yearly, typically with a round-robin group stage followed by a main event in a double-elimination bracket. The 2026 edition began with an online group stage from 13 to 16 August, played by sixteen teams. Eight teams reached the main event, played from 20 to 23 August at the SPD Bank Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai. Team Spirit were the Grand Champions, and the total prize pool was $3,906,263.
Players fund most of the prize pool. Since 2013 it has been crowdfunded mainly through a battle pass called the Compendium, and 25% of Compendium revenue goes to the prize pool. Betway covers The International, and so does William Hill.
Tournaments inside the circuit were either Majors or Minors. A Major needed a minimum prize pool of $500,000, a qualifier from each of six primary regions and an offline final. Minors followed the same structure with a $150,000 minimum. Valve contributed directly to the prize pool of each event, matching the minimum required amount.
William Hill still advertises Dota 2 betting on the circuit, which ended with the 2023 season.
Betway and Unibet both list EPL Masters among their Dota 2 competitions.
Unibet lists FISSURE Universe among its Dota 2 competitions.
The table shows what Betway, Unibet and William Hill had open for Dota 2 on 18 and 20 October 2026. Competitions change as events start and finish.
| Bookmaker | Dota 2 competitions | Bet types |
|---|---|---|
| EPL Masters, The International | Match winner, map winner, tournament winner, correct score, first blood, towers, barracks, kills, Roshan | |
| EPL Masters, FISSURE Universe | Match winner, map winner, map handicap, outrights, map time, first to an objective, most picked or most banned hero | |
| The International, Dota Pro Circuit (advertised) | Match winner, correct score, first blood, first turret (listed for esports in general) |
Midnite also offers Dota 2 betting, with Roshan markets, alongside match winner, match handicap, correct score and map winner bets across its esports.
A match winner bet backs a team to win the whole series. A map winner bet backs a team to win one game of it. On a two-way map market, Betway voids the bet if the map ends in a draw.
Map handicap: you back a team to win by more than one map. A -1.5 handicap works this way: the team must win by two clear maps or more, so in a best-of-three it needs a 2-0 win. A correct score bet backs the exact map scoreline, for example 2-0 or 2-1 in a best-of-three. Betway lists correct score among its common esports bet types.
First blood is a bet on the first kill of the game. Betway settles it on that kill, provided the broadcast or game data registers it as First Blood, so a kill denied by a team-mate may not count. Midnite settles it on the in-game First Blood announcement.
Kill bets follow the broadcast or game API at Betway, so a hero killed by tower or creep damage alone may not count as a kill. Midnite grades kills on the in-game scoreboard.
Betway and Midnite both treat a tower or barracks destroyed with a creep's last hit as destroyed by the opposing team. Betway counts six barracks per team, with the ranged and melee barracks in each pair counted separately. Roshan bets go to the team that slays Roshan, whoever picks up the Aegis. Time-based bets follow the in-game clock, and Betway leaves out the period before creeps spawn.
On next-objective markets at Betway, bets on either team lose if a Neither or Draw option is offered and wins. Where no such option exists and neither team wins the market, stakes are refunded.
Unibet adds specials at big tournaments: most picked or most banned hero, the longest or shortest map, and the first team to reach an objective.
An outright bet backs a team to win a whole tournament. If a team withdraws before the tournament begins, Midnite refunds outright bets on it, and a tournament postponed by more than 30 days voids them. Betway voids all outright bets if a tournament is not completed. A team that plays at least one map counts as an entrant at Betway and settles as a loser if it later drops out.
The Dota 2 events open for betting are The International, EPL Masters and FISSURE Universe. Two bookmakers cover each of the first two, and one covers FISSURE Universe. Betway prices markets from outright tournament winners through to map-by-map and in-play betting on its major events, The International among them. For the steps of placing a bet on any of these events, read how to bet on Dota 2.
Betway Limited holds Gambling Commission account number 39372. Betway covers EPL Masters and The International for Dota 2 and prices first blood, tower, barracks, kill and Roshan bets. Cash Out works on single, multiple and system bets, before and during an event, though Betway does not guarantee it on every market.
The welcome offer is Bet £10, get £40 in free bets, paid as four £10 tokens when the qualifying bet settles. The qualifying stake is £10 and the free bet expiry is 7 days. Betway sets a maximum payout of £100,000 on esports and £500,000 across all sports in a day. Its rating of 4.2 and the criteria behind it are in the Betway review for UK players.
Platinum Gaming Limited holds Gambling Commission licence number 45322. Unibet lists EPL Masters and FISSURE Universe for Dota 2, and its sportsbook has cash out, bet builders and live streaming.
The welcome offer is Get £40 in free bets when you bet £20, and the free bets lapse within a week of being issued. The Unibet review for UK players covers the rest of its sportsbook.
WHG (International) Limited holds Gambling Commission account number 39225. William Hill covers The International for Dota 2.
The welcome offer is £30 in free bets, paid as three £10 free bets after settlement, and they run out after 7 days. William Hill caps esports winnings at £25,000 for tournament outrights and match winner markets and £10,000 for all other markets. The full breakdown is in the William Hill review for UK players.
Midnite Limited holds Gambling Commission licence number 101839. Midnite offers Dota 2 betting, including Roshan markets, and has a bet builder. It can switch cash out off on any account at any time.
The welcome offer is Bet £10, get £30 in free bets, split across three bet types. The qualifying bet must be placed within 14 days of sign-up, and the free bets expire 7 days after crediting. Midnite pays out at most £25,000 on esports, with £250,000 per calendar day across all bets. More on its account and safety checks sits in the Midnite review for UK players.
Betway marks esports as in-play, and its live esports markets include map winner and next map. The stream usually runs a few seconds behind Betway's live data, so a market can move or suspend before the play reaches the screen.
Unibet offers Dota 2 markets in play.
William Hill applies an automated time delay before it accepts an in-play bet. If the price changes slightly after you press Place Bet, the bet is accepted at the larger price. If it changes more, the bet is not placed and is offered again at the new price. William Hill can suspend a market when something significant happens, and no bets can be placed during a suspension.
At Midnite, in-play data is subject to a delay.
Betway voids a match that is not played within 3 hours of its original start, or within 48 hours at a LAN event. Midnite refunds series bets when a postponed match is not resumed within 48 hours of the scheduled start, though a map played inside that window is settled as usual. William Hill voids abandoned or postponed events unless the sport has its own rule, and bets on markets already resolved stand.
If a match starts but is not completed, Betway voids match bets unless a team is disqualified, in which case the team progressing is the winner. When a team surrenders, Betway lets bets stand and settles kill, barracks and Roshan bets on the position at that moment. A team that calls GG before the final objective is settled as a loser.
Midnite treats a started map that ends in a surrender, forfeit or admin decision as completed: bets that can be determined stand and the rest are refunded. If a team forfeits before a map starts, bets on that map are refunded. Where a draw is not an option, extra time counts toward the result at Midnite.
Betway's qualifying bet is a pre-event bet at minimum odds of 2.0, so a bet placed in play on a Dota 2 map does not qualify.
William Hill asks for a first deposit of £10 or more and a £10 single bet at minimum odds of 1/2 or longer. Its free bets work on any sports market except Virtuals. They come in £10 units that must be used in full and cannot be withdrawn. Deposits made with PayPal, Neosurf, Paysafe, Apple Pay, NETELLER, Skrill, ecoPayz, Kalibra/Postpay or the WH PLUS Card are excluded from the offer.
Midnite's qualifying bet is a £10 sportsbook bet at minimum odds of 1/1 (2.0) or higher. The free bets are one £10 free bet for a single, three £5 free bets for pre-match bet builders at 3/1 (4.0) with at least three selections, and one £5 free bet for a pre-match accumulator at 4/1 (5.0) with four or more selections. They work on eligible Sportsbook markets, and Virtual Sports are excluded. Voided, cashed-out and each-way bets do not qualify, free bets cannot be used on each-way bets, and the free stake is not returned with winnings.
Unibet's welcome offer is a sports offer. The wording of the William Hill, Midnite and Unibet offers refers to sports markets in general and does not mention esports, so check that the Dota 2 market you want is eligible before you stake. More offers are compared on esports betting offers.
Betway has the highest rating and covers The International and EPL Masters for Dota 2. It also has the highest esports maximum payout of the three bookmakers that give one, at £100,000, and its qualifying bet must be placed before the event starts.
Unibet covers EPL Masters and FISSURE Universe, and its sportsbook has cash out, a bet builder and live streaming. Its welcome offer matches Betway's £40 but asks for a £20 stake. William Hill covers The International and has the shortest minimum odds on its welcome offer, 1/2, with lower esports payout limits than Betway. Midnite has the lowest rating, offers Roshan markets for Dota 2 and pairs a £30 welcome offer with bet builder free bets.
Start with the Dota 2 events you want to bet on, then check the offer conditions and the settlement rules above.
Set a deposit limit, a loss limit and a time limit before a series starts, and keep to them. Esports matches run at every hour and in-play prices move quickly, so decide the budget for a match before it starts. A free bet, a price boost or a big final is never a reason to raise a limit or chase a loss.
Betway offers deposit limits, session reminders, Take a Break and self-exclusion. Unibet offers deposit limits, net deposit limits, product blocks and self-exclusion. William Hill offers deposit limits, time-outs, session time reminders and self-exclusion. Midnite offers deposit and loss limits, Cool Off and exclusion for a definite period.
Gamstop blocks you from gambling websites and apps licensed in Great Britain. For support, call the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133 (England and Scotland) or the NHS Wales Helpline on 0808 2819 265 (Wales). GambleAware also gives help. You must be 18 or over to bet.
Match winner and handicap bets look at the final result of the series, while a bet on a single map is settled when that game ends. At Midnite, if three or more stand-ins play for one team in a match, all bets on that series are void, whereas one or two stand-ins leave bets standing, and coaches count as stand-ins there. At Betway, a line-up change after the markets close leaves all bets standing.
It is the Dota 2 tournament that carries the Aegis of Champions trophy, and its prize pool has changed a lot from year to year. The inaugural edition invited every team, the 2021 edition had the largest prize pool at $40 million (£29 million), and the 2024 edition had the smallest since crowdfunding began, at $2,602,164. The Aegis is a shield cast in bronze and silver, and its reverse side carries the name of every player on the winning team.
It was Valve's points-based league that decided which teams reached The International between 2017 and 2023. In the first season, 2017-2018, the eight teams with the highest point totals received direct invitations to The International 2018, and another ten qualified through regional qualifier tournaments. Roster changes carried a penalty of 15% of a team's points for every player changed.
Yes, live betting is available on Dota 2, at least at Unibet. Betway treats the scores and timings shown during a match as display information only, not a basis for settlement, and it may void a bet placed after the outcome was known or after a team gained a material advantage. At Midnite, if a match starts before its scheduled time, bets placed after the actual start on a market that is not offered in play are void.
A map handicap starts one team with a deficit or a lead measured in maps, so the bet is settled on the adjusted series score. Midnite settles handicaps on the number of maps played: if the announced number of maps changes or the series format is wrong, handicap and correct score bets have no action and are refunded, while match winner bets stand.
A match that is never played leaves its bets void or refunded. Cheating is a separate case: where a team is disqualified or forced to forfeit for cheating, Midnite voids bets on the affected map and on the series, and if cheating is found after a series has ended, it voids bets on series that team played in the same competition during the previous 24 hours. Betway also reserves the right to void all bets on a game where a server change or similar problem hindered a team's performance.
