How to bet on League of Legends
Betting on League of Legends means choosing, in order, a bookmaker licensed by the Gambling Commission that lists the game, then a match, then a market within that match. A deposit limit is set before any of it. Every bookmaker on this site holds a Gambling Commission licence. The sections below cover how a game is played, which events carry bets, how the common markets settle and what to check before a bet is placed. Our team tests and checks every fact against the sources listed at the end.
What a LoL bet is on
League of Legends is a team-based strategy game in which two teams of five champions face off to destroy the other side's base. The Nexus is the heart of each base, and the first team to destroy the enemy Nexus wins the game.
The unit a bet is placed on varies. A match is a set of games between the same two teams, and the Worlds 2026 schedule has matches played as best-of-one, best-of-three or best-of-five. Midnite calls a match a series, and each game inside it is a map. Betway offers match betting and a market to win a map. Unibet lists a market on each individual game alongside the match winner.
Settlement follows the official result. Betway settles on the result supplied by the tournament officials. Midnite settles on the result declared by the governing body of the competition, and uses the stream video or screenshots when the result comes through a stream. For bets that need detail, such as kills, Midnite uses the official scoreboard, broadcast or game API.
How a League of Legends game unfolds
A game is fought along lanes, and players choose from over 140 champions. A team needs to clear at least one lane to get to the enemy Nexus, and turrets and inhibitors block the path. Each lane has three turrets and one inhibitor, and each Nexus is guarded by two turrets. Turrets damage enemy minions and champions. Markets call turrets towers, and William Hill lists first turret markets for MOBA games such as League of Legends. Midnite and Betway settle tower and inhibitor bets in the same way, covered under the markets below.
Between the lanes is the jungle, where neutral monsters and jungle plants live. The two most important monsters are Baron Nashor and the Drakes. Killing them gives a team unique buffs and can turn the tide of a game. Baron Nashor is the most powerful monster in the jungle: its slayers gain bonus attack damage, ability power and empowered recall, and nearby minions become much stronger. Midnite's total dragons and total barons bets count these monsters.
Five positions make up the recommended team: top lane, jungle, mid lane, bot lane and support. Champions grow stronger by earning experience, from kills, assists and destroyed structures, and gold, which buys items. Kill, first blood, tower and inhibitor markets are all built on these events.
LoL leagues and international events
World Championship
The World Championship, known as Worlds, is the annual professional League of Legends tournament hosted by Riot Games, and it is the culmination of each season. Teams compete for the Summoner's Cup, and the venues rotate across major countries and regions each year. On the 2026 schedule Worlds runs from 15 October to 14 November. Play-Ins and the Swiss stage come first, then quarter-finals and semi-finals. Play-In, quarter-final and semi-final matches are best-of-five, and Swiss-stage matches are best-of-one or best-of-three. Betway has a League of Legends World Championship group, and Unibet lists outright markets on the winner, a first-time winner and the region of the winner.
Mid-Season Invitational
The Mid-Season Invitational, or MSI, is an international tournament Riot Games introduced in 2015. The first was held in Tallahassee, Florida, with a single team from each major region and one international wildcard. On the 2026 schedule MSI runs from 28 June to 12 July, between the second and third regional splits.
Regional leagues
The regional leagues on the 2026 schedule are the LEC, LCS, CBLOL, LCK, LPL and LCP. They play in splits: Split 1 from 12 January to 8 March, Split 2 from 30 March to 21 June and Split 3 from July to October. The LEC is the League of Legends European Championship, the LCK is League of Legends Champions Korea, the LPL is the League of Legends Pro League in China, which began in 2013 with eight teams, and the CBLOL is the Campeonato Brasileiro de League of Legends. Franchising began in the LPL in 2017, removing promotion and relegation, and reached the LCS in 2018 with ten permanent teams. The LEC (2019), CBLOL (2020) and LCK (2021) followed.
First Stand
First Stand is a global event played from 16 to 22 March on the 2026 schedule, between the first and second regional splits.
EMEA Masters
EMEA Masters, formerly European Masters, features the top teams from Europe's regional leagues and replaced the EU Challenger Series in 2019. Its playoffs and final are best-of-five on the 2026 schedule, and Unibet lists an EMEA Masters Final competition.

LoL markets and how they settle
Odds are not quoted here because they change by the minute. League of Legends odds explained covers how to read them.
Match and map winners
Match winner is the bet on who wins the whole match, and map winner is the bet on a single game. Betway, Midnite and Unibet all offer both. At Betway a draw voids the win/win map market. Midnite counts any extra time towards the result when a game cannot end in a draw, and settles on regulation time only when a draw option is offered.
Handicaps and correct score
Unibet lists Map Handicap. A -1.5 map handicap on a team in a best-of-three match wins only if that team wins 2-0. Betway offers correct score, the exact map scoreline such as 2-0 or 2-1 in a best-of-three. If the announced number of maps changes at Midnite, or a match is offered with the wrong series format, handicap and correct score bets have no action while Match Winner bets stand.
Kills and first blood
Unibet lists bets such as which team reaches 10 champion kills first and whether a team's total champion kills passes 23.5. Midnite grades Kills Total, Kills Handicap, Most Kills and First to X Kills from the in-game scoreboard, and settles First Blood on the in-game First Blood announcement. Betway takes the official broadcast or game API as definitive on whether a death counts as a kill. William Hill lists first blood among its esports markets. When a Betway market has a neither or draw selection and it wins, bets on either team lose. Where it has no such selection and neither team wins, the bets are void and stakes refunded. Midnite pushes a Race To bet with no Neither selection when neither team gets there.
Towers, inhibitors, dragons and barons
At Midnite and Betway a destroyed tower or inhibitor is credited to the opposing team even if a minion made the last hit. An inhibitor can respawn and be destroyed again. For a bet on the number destroyed, Betway counts each of the six inhibitors once, while for a next-inhibitor bet every destruction counts separately. Time-based bets use the in-game clock at both bookmakers. Dragon and baron bets count kills of the Drakes and Baron Nashor, and Midnite's wording for them follows below.
Outrights
Outright markets cover a whole tournament. If a tournament is postponed by more than 30 days, Midnite voids outright bets. If a team withdraws before the tournament begins, outright bets on it have no action and are refunded. Betway voids outrights when a tournament is not completed, treats a team as an entrant once it has played at least one map, and settles an entrant that does not complete the tournament as a loser.
Midnite's LoL rules in detail
Inhibitors
For any total or handicap on the number of inhibitors destroyed, each inhibitor counts once, even if it respawns and is destroyed a second time. A respawned inhibitor falling again adds nothing to the count.
Surrender
When a team surrenders, bets on towers or inhibitors are settled as if the winning team had destroyed the fewest additional towers and inhibitors it would theoretically have needed to win normally from that position. Priority goes to an inhibitor that was already destroyed and has respawned. If an inhibitor of the losing team is already destroyed at the surrender, no additional inhibitor is deemed destroyed. If the winning team has destroyed all tier 1 towers and one tier 2 tower, it is deemed to have destroyed three additional towers, 7 in total, because it would have needed one tier 3 tower and the two nexus towers.
Total dragons
Total Dragons and Second Dragon bets count both elemental drakes and elder drakes. Midnite uses Dragon and Drake interchangeably.
Total barons
Total Barons and Second Baron bets are on Baron Nashor specifically.
Placing a LoL bet step by step
- Look up the bookmaker's licence number in the Gambling Commission public register before depositing.
- Set a deposit limit in the account settings before the first deposit.
- Open the esports section. Betway and Unibet list Esports in their sports menus, and William Hill has an eSports section with Matches and Competitions.
- Choose the League of Legends competition, then the match and the market. Midnite treats start dates and times as an indication only, and wagers stand if a match is offered with an incorrect time.
- Check the stake and the conditions: the maximum payout for esports, the rule for the market and, when a free bet is used, its minimum odds and expiry.
- Place the bet and confirm it appears in My Bets.
When a LoL game is remade or cut short
At Midnite, if a map is replayed after a technical difficulty, bets placed before the original map started are settled on the replayed map. Bets placed in play stand if their outcome was decided before the incident and are refunded if it was not.
Once a map has started, a win by surrender, forfeit or admin decision counts as a completed map at Midnite: bets that can be determined stand and the rest are void and refunded. A forfeit before the map starts leaves bets on that map with no action. Betway keeps bets standing after a surrender and settles dragon, baron and kill bets on the position at that moment.
If a match is suspended or postponed and not resumed within 48 hours of the scheduled start, Midnite refunds series bets, while any map played in that time settles as usual. Betway voids matches not played within 3 hours of the original start, or 48 hours at LAN events, and voids correct score bets on a match that is not completed.
Using a welcome offer on LoL
Each welcome offer has its own conditions, and an esports bet counts only on an eligible market. Before using one on LoL, check the market, the minimum odds and the expiry.
- Midnite: qualifying stake £10 at minimum odds of 1/1 (2.0) within 14 days of sign-up. The £30 comes as a £10 free bet on a single and £5 free bets on bet builders and an accumulator. Free bet expiry is 7 days after crediting. The free stake is not returned, and voided, cashed out and each-way bets do not qualify.
- Betway: qualifying stake £10 on a pre-event bet at minimum odds of 2.0. The £40 comes as free bet tokens, 4 x £10 with betting restrictions, with a free bet expiry of 7 days.
- William Hill: deposit £10+ and place a £10 single at minimum odds of 1/2+ on any sports market except Virtuals. The £30 comes as 3 x £10 free bets with a free bet expiry of 7 days. Deposits by PayPal, Neosurf, Paysafe, Apple Pay, NETELLER, Skrill, ecoPayz, Kalibra/Postpay and WH PLUS Card are excluded, and the offer ends 31.12.26.
- Unibet: qualifying stake £20 for £40 in free bets, with a free bet expiry within 7 days of issue.
More offers are covered in Esports betting offers.
Bet within your limits
Set a deposit limit, and a loss or time limit where the bookmaker offers one, before a series starts, and keep to them. Esports matches are scheduled at all hours and in-play prices move quickly, so decide the budget for a match before it begins. Midnite offers deposit and loss limits, exclusion for a set period and a Cool Off. Betway offers a Deposit Limit, Session Reminder, Take a Break and Self-Exclusion. William Hill offers deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion. Unibet offers a Deposit Limit, Net Deposit Limit and Self Exclusion. A free bet, a price boost or a big final is never a reason to raise a limit or chase a loss. Gamstop blocks every site licensed in Great Britain at once. For support, the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133 serves England and Scotland, and the NHS Wales Helpline on 0808 2819 265 serves Wales. You must be 18 or over to bet.
Questions
What is a first blood bet?
A bet on which team scores the first kill of the game. In League of Legends first blood is the first kill on the map, and the market is not tied to a time. A death caused by tower or minion damage, with no enemy champion involved, may not register as a kill on the broadcast, and then it does not count.
Are LoL bets settled on the series or on each game?
Both exist, so the market name matters. A match or series bet depends on the whole contest, and a map or game bet depends on one game inside it. At Midnite a bet on a map that is never played because the series is already decided is void and refunded. If a team wins a best-of-three 2-0, bets on Map 3 are refunded.
What is a total dragons bet?
A bet on how many Drakes are killed in a single map. Drakes are neutral jungle monsters, and killing one gives the team a unique buff, so teams contest them. Baron Nashor is a separate monster with its own total barons bet, so read the market name before staking.
What happens if a game is remade?
It depends on when the bet was placed. Take a first to 10 kills bet and a map winner bet, both placed in play. If the team wins the first 10 kills and the map then has to be replayed, the first to 10 kills bet stands and the map winner bet is refunded.
Can I bet on LoL in play?
Yes, at bookmakers that offer it. Unibet takes League of Legends bets in play, and Betway marks its Esports section as in-play. Prices move with the game, and the stream usually runs a few seconds behind the live data, so a market can move or suspend before the play reaches your screen. William Hill puts in-play bets through an automated delay, accepts a marginal price change at the larger price and re-offers a bigger change on the bet slip.
Which bookmakers list League of Legends?
Four of the bookmakers rated here list it: Midnite, Betway, William Hill and Unibet. The licence number of each can be checked on the Gambling Commission public register.
What is the World Championship?
The annual world title in League of Legends. The first was held in 2011 at DreamHack in Jönköping, Sweden, with eight teams, and Fnatic won it. T1 of South Korea is the most successful team, with six world championships.
What does surrender mean for a bet?
One team gives up the game, and the other is awarded the win. A map winner bet is settled on that result. Bets that count towers, inhibitors, dragons, barons or kills follow the bookmaker's method for a surrender, which differs between Midnite and Betway.
