Before a bet, compare the competitions a bookmaker covers, the bet types it offers on them, how it settles a bet when a game stops early, the delay on in-play data and the conditions on its welcome offer. These differ from one bookmaker to the next. Our team tests and checks every fact below against the bookmakers' esports sections and betting rules. There are no tips or predictions here, and you must be 18 or over to bet.

About League of Legends

League of Legends is a team-based strategy game made by Riot Games. Two teams of five champions play against each other, and each team tries to destroy the other's base. Players choose from over 140 champions.

The heart of each base is the Nexus, and the first team to destroy the enemy Nexus wins the game. Minions spawn at a team's Nexus. Behind it sits the Fountain, where champions restore health and mana and reach the Shop. To get to the enemy Nexus a team has to clear at least one lane. Each lane has three turrets and one inhibitor, and each Nexus is guarded by two turrets. Turrets damage enemy minions and champions.

Between the lanes is the jungle, where neutral monsters live. The two most important are Baron Nashor and the Drakes. Killing these monsters gives the slaying team buffs. Baron Nashor, the strongest monster in the jungle, adds bonus attack damage and ability power.

Teams fill five positions: top lane, jungle, mid lane, bot lane and support. During a game champions earn experience and gold. Experience raises their level and strengthens abilities, and gold buys items. Most champions have five abilities, a Passive, three Basics and an Ultimate. They also carry two summoner spells and up to seven items.

How a League of Legends match is won

A game ends when one team destroys the other's Nexus. A professional match is a series of games played as Bo1, Bo3 or Bo5: best of one, three or five games. The first team to win a majority of the games takes the series.

Bookmakers settle on two units. A match winner bet follows the series. A bet on a single game follows that one game only. Betway and Midnite call a single game a map, so a map winner bet is a bet on one game of the series.

A series ends as soon as one team cannot be caught, so some games are never played. Midnite refunds bets on them: in a best-of-three won 2-0, a bet on Map 3 is refunded. The in-game events that bookmakers also price, such as kills, towers, inhibitors, dragons and Barons, are settled on the game they belong to.

How LoL esports is organised

Riot Games, the game's maker, runs League of Legends esports. Its calendar divides the year into three stages. Each stage has a regional split and ends with a global event: First Stand after Split 1, the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) after Split 2 and Worlds after Split 3.

The regional leagues on the calendar are the LEC, LCS, CBLOL, LCK, LPL and LCP. The LCK is League of Legends Champions Korea, the LPL is the League of Legends Pro League in China and CBLOL is the Campeonato Brasileiro de League of Legends. EMEA Masters sits beside them and brings together the top teams from Europe's regional leagues.

Franchising shaped these leagues. The LPL became a franchised league in 2017, which removed promotion and relegation there. The North American league followed in 2018, the LEC in 2019, the CBLOL in 2020 and the LCK in 2021. In China, Riot and Tencent oversee League of Legends esports through a joint venture called TJ Sports, created in 2019.

Qualification for Worlds has run on points. Riot introduced championship points in 2014, and teams earn them through both splits and playoffs to qualify for the tournament.

Worlds

The League of Legends World Championship, called Worlds, is the annual tournament that closes each season. Riot Games hosts it and the venue rotates between countries and regions. The 2014 edition was the first held in more than one country, across Taiwan, Singapore and South Korea, and that became a model for later editions. A play-in stage has been part of Worlds since 2017.

The 2026 edition runs from 15 October to 14 November. It opens with Play-Ins played as Bo5 series. A Swiss stage follows from 23 October, played as Bo1 and Bo3 series, then Bo5 quarterfinals from 3 to 6 November and Bo5 semifinals on 7 and 8 November. Betway, Unibet and William Hill all cover Worlds.

Mid-Season Invitational

MSI is Riot's mid-year international event, played after Split 2 and before Worlds. In 2026 it ran from 28 June to 12 July. Betway covers MSI.

First Stand

First Stand is the global event that follows Split 1. In 2026 it ran from 16 to 22 March.

Regional leagues

The LEC, LCS, CBLOL, LCK, LPL and LCP each play three splits a year. In 2026 Split 1 ran from 12 January to 8 March and Split 2 from 30 March to 21 June. Split 3 runs from July to October.

EMEA Masters

EMEA Masters is a tournament for the top teams from Europe's regional leagues. It began in 2019 as European Masters and replaced the EU Challenger Series, the LEC's secondary league. Its playoffs and final are played as Bo5 series, and the final is scheduled for 22 October. Unibet lists the EMEA Masters Final as a competition.

LoL markets at each bookmaker

Betway, Unibet and William Hill list League of Legends competitions. The table shows what each covers.

UnibetEMEA Masters Final, World Championships Play-In, World Championship outrightsMatch winner, game winner, map handicap, kills, outrights
William HillWorld Championship, League of Legends Asian GamesMatch betting, outrights, correct score, round winners, first blood, first turret

William Hill's League of Legends Asian Games competition has Matches and Outrights tabs. At Unibet the World Championship outrights cover the winner, a first-time winner, the winning region and the winner without Gen.G.

Midnite's esports markets include match winner, map winner, match handicap, correct score, kills, first blood, race-to and head-to-head bets. It also has settlement rules for League of Legends inhibitors, surrender, dragons and Barons.

LoL bet types explained

Match and game bets

Match winner: you back a team to win the series. Map winner: you back a team to win one game of it. Correct score: you pick the exact scoreline, such as 2-0 or 2-1 in a best-of-three.

Handicap: you back a team to win by more than one map. A -1.5 handicap on a best-of-three means the team must win 2-0. Midnite lists match handicap. If the announced number of maps changes, Midnite gives no action on bets that depend on the series format, such as match handicap and correct score. Match winner bets stand, and map bets stand if the map is played.

Kills, objectives and time

Kill bets at Midnite, including kills total, kills handicap, most kills and first to a set number of kills, are graded on the in-game scoreboard. Midnite settles first blood on the in-game First Blood announcement.

Towers and inhibitors that are destroyed count for the opposing team even when a minion lands the last hit, at both Betway and Midnite. In totals, each of the six inhibitors counts once, even if it respawns and falls again. Betway counts every destruction separately for next inhibitor bets. Midnite counts elemental and elder drakes in dragon bets, and its Baron bets are on Baron Nashor. Time-based bets are settled on the in-game clock.

Race-to and first-to bets work on a target such as a number of kills. If no "neither" selection is offered and neither team reaches the target, stakes are refunded. Where a "neither" selection is offered and wins, Betway treats bets on either team as losers.

Outright bets

An outright is a bet on who wins a whole event. If a team withdraws before a tournament begins, Midnite refunds outright bets on it. At Betway a team that plays at least one map counts as an entrant, and if it later fails to complete the tournament it is settled as a loser.

Leagues and tournaments on offer

Worlds is the event all three of Betway, Unibet and William Hill cover, and Unibet adds the Play-In stage. Betway adds MSI, Unibet adds the EMEA Masters Final and William Hill has a League of Legends Asian Games competition.

For how each event runs and what to bet on, read LoL esports betting on leagues and tournaments. The price formats and how prices move are in League of Legends odds explained. If you are new to the market, start with How to bet on League of Legends.

LoL bookmaker by bookmaker

Betway

Betway Limited holds Gambling Commission account number 39372 (see the Betway review for UK players). Betway lists League of Legends with a World Championship group, and it covers MSI. The welcome offer needs a qualifying stake of £10 and pays £40 in free bets as 4 x £10 tokens on settlement. The maximum payout for esports is £100,000. Cash Out is available on a range of sports and markets, on single, multiple and system bets before and during an event, though Betway does not guarantee it is available at all times. Support is the weak point at 2 of 5, with e-mail and writing only, while welcome free bet and account and safety both reach 5.

Unibet

Platinum Gaming Limited holds Gambling Commission licence 45322, and the 3.9 rating is explained in the Unibet review for UK players. Unibet covers the EMEA Masters Final and the Worlds Play-In and prices Worlds outrights. Its welcome offer asks for a £20 stake and pays £40 in free bets. The sportsbook has Cash Out, Bet Builders and live streaming. Betting features is its strongest criterion at 5 of 5, and markets is the weakest at 1 of 5.

William Hill

WHG (International) Limited holds Gambling Commission account number 39225. The William Hill review for UK players covers the 3.8 rating in detail. William Hill covers the World Championship and has a League of Legends Asian Games competition. The welcome offer needs a first deposit of £10+ and a £10 bet, and pays £30 in free bets as 3 x £10. The maximum payout for esports is £25,000 on tournament outrights and match winner markets, and £10,000 on all other esports markets. Betting features is its lowest scored criterion at 1 of 5, against 5 of 5 for welcome free bet and for account and safety.

Midnite

Midnite Limited holds Gambling Commission licence number 101839. For the 3.1 rating, criterion by criterion, open the Midnite review for UK players. Midnite settles League of Legends series under specific rules for inhibitors, surrender, dragons and Barons, and it offers a Bet Builder. A £10 sportsbook bet earns £30 in free bets, split across three bet types. The maximum payout for esports is £25,000. It scores 4 of 5 for welcome free bet, 2 for betting features and 1 for markets.

In-play betting on LoL

Betway marks Esports as in-play, and its live markets include map winner, next map and round winner. The stream you watch usually runs a few seconds behind Betway's live data, so a market can move or suspend before the play reaches your screen. Scores and timing shown in play are for display only and are not used for settlement.

William Hill applies an automated time delay to every in-play bet before it is accepted. A marginal price change is accepted at the larger price. A bigger change means the bet is not placed and is offered again at the new price. Markets can be suspended when something significant happens, and Cash Out may be unavailable while one is suspended.

Midnite's in-play event data is delayed. If a match starts before its listed start time, a bet placed after the real start on a market not offered in play is void.

Unibet takes in-play bets on League of Legends at any point in a match, and the odds move with the match.

When a LoL match is cut short

Betway voids bets on a match not played within 3 hours of its original start time, or within 48 hours at LAN events. If a match starts but is not completed, match bets are void unless a team is disqualified, and then the team that progresses is the winner. When a team surrenders, bets stand, and bets on dragons, Barons and kills are settled on the position at that moment. Betway may void all bets on a game if a team's performance is hindered, for example by a server change.

Midnite refunds series bets if a match is suspended or postponed and not resumed within 48 hours of the scheduled start, though a map played in that window is settled as usual. A surrender or forfeit after a map has started completes the map: bets that can be decided stand and the rest are void. If a map is replayed, bets placed before the original start are settled on the replay. Outright bets are void if a tournament is postponed by more than 30 days.

William Hill treats abandoned or postponed events as void, except for markets already resolved, which stand.

Offers you can use on LoL bets

Betway asks for a pre-event bet of £10 at minimum odds of 2.0, and the £40 arrives as 4 x £10 free bet tokens on settlement. The free bet expiry is 7 days.

William Hill asks for a first deposit of £10+ and a £10 single bet from main balance at odds of 1/2+ on any sports market except Virtuals. The 3 x £10 free bets work on any sports market except Virtuals, expire in 7 days, cannot be withdrawn and must be used in full. Deposits by PayPal, Skrill, NETELLER, Apple Pay and several other methods do not qualify.

Midnite asks for a £10 sportsbook bet at minimum odds of 1/1 (2.0) within 14 days of sign-up. It pays one £10 free single, 3 x £5 pre-match Bet Builders at minimum odds of 3/1 (4.0) with 3 selections, and one £5 pre-match accumulator at minimum odds of 4/1 (5.0) with 4+ selections. The free bets expire 7 days after crediting, and the stake is not returned with winnings. Voided, cashed out and each-way bets do not qualify, and Virtual Sports do not count.

Unibet's sports welcome offer pays £40 in free bets for a £20 bet, and the free bets expire within 7 days of issue.

None of these welcome offers mentions esports by name, so check the eligible-markets wording before you stake. More offers are listed under Esports betting offers.

Choosing a bookmaker for LoL

Betway ranks first on rating and has the highest esports payout cap on this page. Its welcome offer also pays the most for a £10 qualifying stake: £40, against £30 at William Hill and Midnite.

Unibet covers EMEA Masters and scores highest for betting features, with Cash Out, Bet Builders and live streaming. William Hill accepts its free bets on any sports market except Virtuals and sets the lowest minimum odds of the offers that give a figure.

Midnite ranks last on rating. Its free bets are split across three bet types, each with its own minimum odds, and it has settlement rules for League of Legends objectives.

Match the bookmaker to the way you bet: competitions and bet types first, then settlement and payout caps, then the offer.

Bet within your limits

Set a deposit limit, a loss limit and a time limit before a series starts. Esports matches run at every hour and in-play prices move quickly, so fix your budget for a match before it begins. A free bet, a price boost or a big final is never a reason to raise a limit or chase a loss.

Betway offers deposit limits, session reminders, Take a Break and self-exclusion. Unibet offers deposit limits, net deposit limits, product blocks and self exclusion. William Hill offers deposit limits, time-outs, session time reminders and self-exclusion. Midnite lets you limit deposits and losses over a set period, exclude yourself for a fixed period or apply a Cool Off. A bookmaker's self-exclusion covers that business only, while Gamstop blocks every site licensed in Great Britain at once.

Questions

Which bookmakers list League of Legends?

All four bookmakers rated on this site include the game in their esports sections. Unibet also takes bets on CS2, Dota 2, Overwatch, Rainbow Six and Valorant.

Can I bet on League of Legends in play?

Yes, bets can be placed once a match is under way. Betway may void a bet placed after the outcome is known or after the chosen team has gained a material advantage, whichever way the bet would have gone.

What is the League of Legends World Championship?

It is the tournament that decides the world champion each year, and the winning team lifts the Summoner's Cup. The first edition was held in 2011 at DreamHack in Jönköping, Sweden, and Fnatic won it. T1 has won the most titles, with six.

What is a first blood bet?

It backs the team that makes the opening kill of a game. Betway settles it on the first kill of the game, and the bet is not time sensitive. For kill bets Betway follows the official broadcast or game data, so a champion killed only by tower or minion damage may not count.

Are LoL bets settled on the series or on each game?

You choose: a match bet is tied to the whole series and a game bet is tied to one game of it. Unibet offers a market on each individual game, and a match bet can take an hour or so to settle.

What is the Mid-Season Invitational?

It is Riot's international event held between the second and third regional splits. Riot created it in 2015, and the first one was played in Tallahassee, Florida, where Edward Gaming won. G2 Esports became the first European winner in 2019.

What happens to a LoL bet if a game is remade?

Bets placed before the original game started move to the replayed game. Midnite gives this example: you place a first 10 kills bet and a map winner bet in play, your team reaches the first 10 kills, and the map then has to be replayed. The first 10 kills bet stands and the map winner bet is refunded.

If you think we are wrong

If a bookmaker changes a term, a market or a figure, our team reads its esports section again and corrects this page. You can send a correction to info@esportsbookies.co.uk. The method behind these checks is described under How we rate.
